Recently we have been made aware of a number of incidents resulting from our students’ use of social media outside of school hours. The impact from this is affecting student interactions at school and the emotional and social well- being of many students. This has a direct impact on their learning.
The majority of social media sites, such as Snap Chat, Kik, Instagram, Facebook and Lively require users to be at least 13 years plus. The Office of the Children’s Safety Commissioner has a wealth of resources to support parents in keeping on top of their children’s technology use. While children may seem tech savvy they still the watchful guidance of parents and guardians to make sure their online experience is positive and safe.
